Gender School to Change Harmful Social Norms and Values
Investing regarding gender education for adolescents and children is energy varying program. It provides adolescents taking into account opportunities to involve their futures and become the adult they were hurting to be and the ripple effects it can have for entire communities and countries in the goal of fact transforming our world. But for many returning to education adding together-pandemic will not be a substitute. Within the context of the emotional and social press, recognizing that the provision of hint alone is not plenty. Young people’s obsessions to be unmodified are the opportunity to get valuable learning skills and developed determined attitudes and values. CSE is entering that recognizes and promotes human rights, knowledge skills vital for health problem prevention, and gender equality.
Evidence has shown that comprehensive sexuality education (CSE) is scientifically accurate, culturally and age-take possession of gender education and skill-based and can be more happening gone maintenance for youngster people considering the knowledge, skills, and efficiency to make informed decisions approximately their sexuality and lifestyle.
When teenagers people are equipped with accurate and relevant mention, once they have developed skills in decision-making, arbitration, communication, and necessary thinking, and have the right of entry to counseling and SRHR facilities that are non-judgmental and affordable. They are improved skills to their personalities.
As the first program of gender school for adolescents in Bangladesh, Space foundation has started gender online training and planned for their achieving their goals. We have done both online and in-person courses on gender, human rights, SRHR mental health & and climate change for kids and adolescents. The course duration is 3 months long and it includes gender, SRHR, Comprehensive sexuality education, gender diversity, human rights, mental health, and climate change.
First batch of gender school
The first batch of gender schools was started during COVID-19 in February 2021 with 18 adolescents aged 12 to 17. The participants were from 6 different districts of Bangladesh. The training course is oriented on human rights, gender, SRHR, mental health, fundamentalism, and climate change. The development of Professional experts and university professors have taken the classes.
Second batch of gender school
The second batch of gender schools was started in June 2021 with 17 adolescents aged 12 to 17. The participants were from 7 different districts of Bangladesh. The training course is oriented on human rights, gender, SRHR, mental health, fundamentalism, and climate change. The development of Professional experts and university professors have taken the classes.
Third batch of gender school
In February 2022 Space – A Foundation for Peace & Care inaugurated Gender School for children with 13 students from Dhaka, Bagerhat, Khulna, & Netrokona. The age of the students were 9 to 12. The course discussed Gender, Human Rights, SRHR & Mental Health. Mental health professionals and development experts have facilitated the training session.
Gender School In-person
Gender school training is 3 months course. This session is started on 14 July 2023 with two batch of students , one batch is kids , which is 9 to 12 years old and another batch is adolecents, which is 13 to 17 years old. The class is based on Gender, Human Rights, and Mental Health. A total of 12 Participants have admitted to continuing the session.
A total of 22 issues will be discussed in this course those are Human Rights, Gender, Power, Division of Labor, Sexual reproductive health, gender diversity, sexulality, menstrual presidency, Self-care, Mental health, and Environment. The key objective of this training course is:
- To build a sensitive generation who will lead society at a young age.
- To reduce child abuse by building awareness among the children about sexual abuse.
- To make the adolescents aware of gender discrimination and patriarchal harmful norms & behaviors
- To make the adolescents aware of climate change and sensible about nature
- To make the adolescents capable of caring own mental health.
Certificate giving ceremony
Space organize a certificate-giving ceremony on June 10, 2022, with the 3rd batch of students. Few students from the 1st and 2nd batch were present at the ceremony. Sanaiyya Faheem Ansari, advisory member of Space conducted the introductory session. Students express their feeling about the event. Promitee from 2nd batch and Grace from 3rd batch sang a song. Propa and Madhurjya from 1st batch danced at the event. After that students provide certificates and a tree to each other.
