Since the second day of the flood, Pathor Ishkul and SPACE – A Foundation for Peace & Care have been working together to support flood-affected individuals. Initially, our volunteers began their efforts with dry food and rescue teams in Comilla, Feni, and Moulvibazar.
As the situation in Comilla and Moulvibazar improved somewhat, our entire team moved to the remote areas of Feni, where assistance had not yet reached. During this time, we observed that while considerable aid was arriving from across the country, Feni was experiencing chaotic conditions, and while the city and its surroundings were receiving ample aid, it was not reaching the remote areas. In Feni, it was also noticed that those with money were purchasing more aid supplies.
When the flood situation worsened in Noakhali, our entire team shifted to the most vulnerable area, Lakshmipur. Additionally, with the support of a farmer, a medical team began working in Noakhali. Animal feed was also provided for dogs, cats, and other animals. Since the 30th, our volunteers have been serving cooked meals along with dry food to the flood-affected individuals. Cooked meals have been arranged for 200 people at the Halima Dighi shelter center in Lakshmipur.
Our Lakshmipur team is now working in the 7 No. Bansha Nagar village. This village has 500 families and only two shelters with very limited capacity. Currently, these two shelters accommodate 100 families. Water levels in the village are still high, reaching up to neck level, and with the ongoing rain, the water level is rising again.
